The beautiful "Old House - New Dundee" is by one of Canada's foremost painters of still-lives, florals, and interiors. Frances-Anne Johnston has formerly been recognized primarily by her association to two men in her life, her father Franz Johnston of the Group of Seven, and her husband, the artist Franklin Arbuckle, despite the latter's acknowledgement that “She’s a better painter than I am.” Today, her work and contributions are being given greater attention, thanks in part to the Ottawa Art Gallery's exhibition "A Family Palette – Frances-Anne Johnston, Franz Johnston and Franklin Arbuckle" (September 10, 2022 – February 5, 2023) and its accompanying catalogue, the first monograph on France-Anne Johnston.
