From the deck of the St-Anne-De-Sorel based tour boat 'Le Survenant', a moustached man invites the viewer to look deeper to discover layers of meaning in the scene. The artist Dumas was also an accomplished illustrator and graphic designer; among his graphic work are the designs for three stamps for Canada Post, one of which commemorated the Quebec author Germaine Guèvremont who wrote the celebrated French-Canadian novel "Le Survenant," also set in the village of St-Anne-De-Sorel. The titular outlander comes to the town and never gives his name, changing the course of the lives of the villagers before leaving again without a goodbye. In "Retour du Survenant," Dumas combines all of these elements into one scene.
