Pierre Huot

  • Artist’s Statement

    From artist's website:

"In the past, Pierre P. Huot's artistic strength could be found in representational and figurative art on canvas, paper, stone and metal. This was the developmental basis of his early years. While he was content with these surface representations, he felt that something unspoken was missing.

About 25 years ago, through a personal unconscious inspiration, he then delved into the world of the abstract. At first, he layered representational and figurative work with touches of the abstract. Soon though, ordered representation became submerged in the abstracted disorder of the world he saw. Figurative work was molded, submerged and transformed by uncontrolled images, both conscious and unconscious. Abstractions came to dominate and with that domination came the chaos that we see in our social and personal lives today. On canvas, he is now inspired and released to combine both the figurative and the abstract into powerful expression that speak to the world at large."

  • Biography

    Pierre Huot (1946-)

    From Koyman Galleries https://koymangalleries.com/wp-content/media/bio/pierre-huot.pdf:

"Pierre Huot was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1946. He has studied at a number of schools including fine and
commercial art at Ottawa Technical School, commercial art at Algonquin College, and drawing, painting and sculpture
the Ottawa School of Art. He worked for a number of years as a graphic artist and in the printing before deciding to
    devote himself full-time to painting.

In the past fifteen years, Pierre Huot has been very prolific, producing countless of oil paintings, pastels, ink and
mixed media drawings. His work has embraced all kinds of genre of paintings: landscapes and cityscapes. He has
also done portraits, still-lifes, nudes, and most recently Jazzy musicians, dancers in bars, nightclub scenes, most of
which were inspired from the thousands of drawings he accumulated over the years.

Spontaneity and movement are the two elements which stimulate him the most. They allow him to bring both the
consciousness of his drawings and the subconciousness of the splashes and drips of colour together. Using a
spatula, his paintings have at times taken on an irregular and almost cubism form also pushing it farther away from
    reality.

Pierre strives towards accomplishing works in a manner which is entirely his own. He is a painter who knows life as
he sees it and interprets it with imagination and verve."
